Legal Question in Employment Law in California
I was falsely accused by a coworker of appearing intoxicated at work ( alcohol) her statement was that she noticed me a soon as i got to work.... we do delivery so she hand me the keys, I drove all day, at the end of the day we had a discussion about something else where she stated that I was intoxicated in front of another co worker.
I reported this defamation of character to HR the next day and they want me to sleep on it. What are the consequences for falsely accusing some one at the work place ( slandering)? Now every body in my company knows that supposedly I came to work intoxicated, I feel that my reputation is in jeopardy and they wants us to go to work like nothing happened.
Its obvious she is lying cause she shouldn't let me do the driving all day "exposing her self to an " intoxicated" driver, accident etc.. she should report me immediately cause we are not friends or anything. she should 've step down from the vehicle as soon as she found out.... her story doesn't make any sense.

Unless you have provable monetary damages from the false statement, such as being fired or losing a promotion or raise, you don't have a case.
