Legal Question in Employment Law in California

FEHC or Attorney?

Hello. On July 11, I filed a complaint with FECH concerning racial descrimination which they accepted. We have not received a responce yet. My employer is Verizon, a multi-billon dollor company. I feel I have a good case. The facts are that I have been doing the work of previous highly paid cacasian workers without promotion or equal pay - even when my boss requested it. I was told there was no engineering position available when in fact there were and given to other caucasians. I hold the lowest posistion of employment which is occupied primarilly by minorities. The higher posistions are held exculsively by caucasians even when I have more than twice the experiance of poeple above me. (19 years). My question is when should I consult an attorney and/or request a right to sue letter? Or, should I let the FEHC handle it? Thanks

Re: FEHC or Attorney?

Sounds like you are still with the company. Why don't you contact the DFEH to see if the employer has made a respone to it, which may not have been sent to you? DFEH is a governmental agency which is understaffed, etc., and you have to keep on its back (in a professional way, of course) to get thing done. Find out if . eg, DFEH gave the employer an extension of time in which to reply, etc., and keep following up.
