Legal Question in Employment Law in California

My fiance does a lot of traveling for his job. They are now talking about sending him to Nebraska for a month. He wants to know if they make him stay there for the weekends are they required to pay him some kind of per diem or wages for the time he must stay in Nebraska and not working? He lives in California.

That would be a highly unusual requirement. They are free not to pay his travel back and forth, but they cannot restrict his movements when he is not on the job. I've never heard of such a requirement outside highly specialized professions that would be exempt from wage and hour laws anyway. If he is subject to wage and hour laws, and they required him to be present in NE, he would definitely be entitled to compensation.
