Does filing with the California Department of Labor for penalties due to unpaid wages give up your rights to pursue any other damages such as civil damages and punitive damages in a court of law?

Penalties for the late payment of wages under Labor Code section 203, is the exclusive remedy in addition to the wage itself. However, if there are additional claims which can be made, such as for wrongful termination, for example, additional damages are not precluded by those kind of statutory penalties.
