Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Forced Retirement

As an employer, what are our options when we have an employee who, at 74 years if age, with a full pension, simply will not retire? This person is in a blue collar position with our mfg. company and has had health issues as well as physical issues. (None labor related.) We have been able to accomodate these issues in his daily tasks. The fear is that, because of his physical instability, he may fall or worse. He has been a loyal and valuable employee but we are worried about him and feel it is time for him to retire. His response is that he would be ''bored at home''. As an employer, are there any options here to facilitate his retirement?
