Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Forcing New Years Eve Work

Because of unsubstantiated fear of Y2K chaos, can an employer force an exempt, regular employee to work on New Years Eve (12/31/99) through New Years Day (1/1/2000) when those days are normally scheduled holidays and no agreement or understanding exists between the two for that schedule? Further, can an employer require an employee to remain on the premises for that period of time with no opportunity to go home? Can disagreement result in discipline?
