Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Full time employee receiving tuition reimbursement for approved courses, not rec

Because of a new computer scheduling system, I am told when I start school this fall, which I am approved by the company and being reimbursed for going to, I will not receive any flexibility since my full time status means that my job should be my career. Part-timers will be worked around that go to school, and yet in order to received tuition reimbursement, one must be full time, and also be approved by corporate for the classes being taken. I have had no problems for the last two years yet now they tell me all of this and I can't hardly sleep not knowing what actions are available to me. What actions should I take??

Re: Full time employee receiving tuition reimbursement for approved courses, not

It is important to understand that employers are not required by law to offer fringe benefits such as tuition reimbursement. So, when they do offer such programs, they are free to dictate the terms and conditions are best meets the interests of the company, as long as it is not applied in a discriminatory manner. If I understand you correctly, your tuition will still be paid for by the company, subject to your working within the full-time schedule they require. There is nothing improper about this. Nor is it improper to differntiate between full-time and part-time employee policies.
