Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I am a full time event supervisor at a small hotel. My employer recently promoted a part-time employee to the same position as me and required us to be scheduled equally. however, there is not enough business during the week for me to get enough hours to maintain full time status. I will surely loose my benifits. What can I do???

You can discuss your concerns with your employer to get a better understanding of what to expect. If it appears your employer is not going to keep you on a full-time status, it may be time to look for other employment more suitable for you.

There is nothing unlawful about promoting another employee to the same position you hold or requiring employees to work on a part-time basis, unless the reason for any adverse action taken against you is for an unlawful motive. Unless protected by contract, as union employees may be, employers have the right to allocate its personnel as it deems is in the best interest of the business.
