Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Harassment/Threats/School District
In my capacity as a substitue teacher, I was recently threatened by a principal for wanting to leave a job site early. The job that I had accepted over the phone was not the same I was given upon my arrival. The principal expected me to muddle through the day with a group of bilingual Kindergarteners. There were no lesson plans and no help was offered. When I said that I would like to take a half day and leave in two hours, she said, ''I'll blackball you! I'll make it so you never work in this district again!'' I then left the job site immediately after I made sure a yard supervisor was watching the children and I had informed the office that I would not tolerate threats, that I was leaving, and that the children were on the playground with a supervisor. Now the principal has put a bad mark in my file at the district. Can I sue in small claims court for libel? Do I have any recourse to fight this bad mark and the principal's threats/harassment? Thanks.

Re: Harassment/Threats/School District
-You can bring an action if an employer gives false information which prevents you from obtaining employment. Therefore, it depends on whether the "bad mark" is true or not.
