Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Hiring someone over 70

I'm looking for a nanny to care for my newborn baby. I found someone who is around 69 - 70 years old. A friend told me that if I hire this nanny and while she is caring for the baby and somehow get sick and need to go to the hospital, the Social Services would take my baby away from me and may charge me for something. Is there suck a law or some laws similar to it? Please advise.

Re: Hiring someone over 70

Assuming this Nanny is otherwise qualified as a nanny and is in good enough health to care for an infant,I don't see any problem with hiring her. Social Services gets involved when there is evidence of child neglect. If you hire her, just make sure to take measures to be available or have someone else available to be there quickly, in case of an emergency.

Just because someone is 69 or 70, doesn't mean they are no longer able to do the job.
