Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I'm hiring my parent to babysit for me as in house employee. I plan to do everything by the book. Pay them a salary and pay all appropriate state/federal/social security taxes. They will also report all income and file taxes. By law, do I have to buy them worker's comp too ?( I do have homeowner's insurance, does it cover injuries to household employee?)

Check with your homeowner's insurance agent or carrier. Most, but not quite 100% of policies cover domestic employees. If it's not covered, you might want to switch carriers as there are probably other hidden gaps in the coverage as well.
