My condolences to your husband for his loss. Unfortunately, our last Governor vetoed a bill passed by the California legislature requiring employers to allow for bereavement leave. While it will not help your husband right now, there will be another effort to pass a similar bill this year and with a new Governor in office, the chances of it being signed into law are better. For now, it is up to each individual company to decide if they wish to implement bereavement policies. But it is not required of them.
