Legal Question in Employment Law in California

inconsistent

I was fired from a retail company after roughly four years for ''failure to document'' of a non tangible fee. I processed a return for a tool and forgot to add on the rental fee of $6. While I forgot to do this once, people in this company fail to do this everyday knowingly and willingly. I know this not by assumption but by admission of other fellow employees. I just want to know if I have any legal options? Thank you.

Re: inconsistent

Generally speaking, an employer may terminate employment "at-will", meaning they don't have to have cause. Retail businesses are particularly notorious for having at-will relationships with their employees.

If you believe you were treated differently, the important question to ask is why you were treated differently. If it was due to an unlawful reason, you may have a case. Try to figure out what was really behind the reason you were fired. If you think it was an unlawful reason, run it by an attorney to see what he/she thinks.
