Legal Question in Employment Law in California

individual vs. group rights

we have a male coworker, whom alot of us have known for years, recently decided that he is really a woman. our company has gone to great lenghts to accomodate his situation. our department is now a very stressful enviroment. i am very uncomfortable with the situation and have been told by human resources that i have to interact with him even though i, as well as the rest of the office, feel extrememly uncomfortable. this guy has also made comments which tell me he is trying to get a rise out of everyone or anyone in the office for a possible lawsuit since he cannot afford to get his sex change operation. do we have to interact with him? what rights, if any do we have?

Re: individual vs. group rights

Obviously you want to protect your own job so my best advice is to interact to the extent needed for you and it to perform your job functions but you are not obligated to socialize with it. if you are so uncomfortable that you cant do that then start looking for a new job.
