Legal Question in Employment Law in California

indoor working conditions

Is there a law or rule that says we can close a store for a day if temperatures become too hot and humid due to a broken air conditioning system that the company wouldn't fix for 2 weeks? The company I work for told the repair guys that it was a non emergency. Customers would not stay long because of the heat and humidity. We were forced to buy 5 fans to put throughout the store. Could we have closed the store because of these unworkable conditions. I began to get a headache into the last few days, I think it was because of heat exhaustion.

Re: indoor working conditions

If youre asking whether or not it is against the law for you to close the store under those circumstances, the answer is no. You can close your store anytime you want and there is no law against that. If youre asking whether or not you can be fired by your company for closing the store when they did not want you to close it, the answer is yes.
