Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I am being investigated for willingly altering my time card, I was at work on time but forgot to clock in. I have a witness, is this legal? Can they terminate me?

If you are an at will employee, you can be terminated for any reason or no reason, as long as it's not a discriminatory or retaliatory reason. Being terminated due to your mistake, however minor it might be, or some other misunderstanding is therefore not illegal, however unfair or harsh it might be.
