Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Involuntary pay cut with no change in status

I have worked for a large childrens hospital for almost five years. Although I was given a review and hourly pay increase approx 2 months ago, thwy have now cut my pay by nearly 2 dollars per hour. They have given all the other per diem associates in my department a pay increase, but since I was making more, I have been given a pay cut to ''make it more fair''. Is this legal? Also, although we do not work actual 12 hour shifts in our department, we had to sign an agreement several years ago to waive our right to overtime. Please help!!!!!!!!

Re: Involuntary pay cut with no change in status

Employers have the right to increase or decrease pay, upon notice, at any time, as long as it is not done discriminatorily, or for illegal reasons.

Agreements to waive overtime pay is not legal or enforceable in California. If and when you work overtime, they must pay it to you, regardless of what you signed.
