Legal Question in Employment Law in California

New job for Spouse

Hi

My spouse is being relocated to Northern California from the from LA. I work in pharma training, my territory is in LA and there are no jobs for No. Cal region. I work mainly from home and out of state could commute to meetings in So. Cal if necessary. If I tell my boss I am moving, will i get terminated? What are my options - I have been succesful with the company for 5 years. thanks

This is not really a legal issue -- while it makes sense to you that you could get your work done for your job even if you moved to Northern California, your boss may see things differently and that is her or his right.

Best of luck to you!

I have always been an advocate for being honest with your employer. If you move and don't tell them, it is just a matter of time before they will find out and that will increase the probability you'll be terminated.

Prepare a list of reasons why your move won't effect your job performance and sell your value to the company. If they still don't like it, there is not much you can do. Unless you have one of those rare contracts that guarantees job protection, employment is terminable at will, so the chances are there is nothing you can do about it.

You should be able to collect unemployment benefits, however.
