Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Job Termination

I want to find out my legal rights after being fired from a business today. I was employed there for 19 years. I was not given either verbal or written notice. I was told today that I had lost my job as of today. What can I do?

Re: Job Termination

If you have an employment contract, there may be a breach by your employer. If your employment was at-will, there may be nothing you can do.

Do you have reason to believe that you were fired because of discrimination?

The painful truth is that, in most situations, an employer can fire an employee for no reason, at any time.

Whew! It sounds rather harsh to usher you out the door the same day without any warning. Do you think you were discriminated against because of your age? Whistleblowing? Union activity? Without more, it's hard to say. If you believe it was for any of these reasons, please e-mail me with your e-mail address, and I'll send to you a questionnaire.
