Legal Question in Employment Law in California

labor law qustion

I was just layed off from my job as a medical transcriptionist from a large children's hospital. Then I transferred to a clerk's position at the same institution. I am now being asked to do some of the same work that I was paid $23.00/hour for $15.00/hour. The new job description requires only a high school diploma or GED equivalent, but for my previous job I had 26 years of experience which would be needed to do the task. I want to tell my supervisor that I'll be happy to do the clerk's job at the clerk's rate of pay, but not a transcriptionists job at a clerk's rate of pay. Do you know what the law says in this situation?

Whatever you agree to is what you'll be paid for. Sounds like you should take a job temporarily and look for something in the meantime that values your background and work ethic. Sorry to hear about the cutbacks.
