Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Laid off - position eliminated - same job reposted two weeks later

I was laid off recently and told that my position had been eliminated. I was also ensured that it had nothing whatsoever to do with performance. The company has now posted my job on both their home page and national job search boards. I thought that this was illegal, that companies couldn't rehire for an eliminated position for six months. Do I have grounds for a wrongful termination suit, and if not, why is it fairly common word on the street that this is illegal for six months?
