Is it lawful for an employer to make an employee work 1000 hours of labor before they receive employee benefits. I work for Fedex Smartpost by the way.

It depends on the location and the benefits. Some localities have laws that mandate benefits of some kind, such as San Francisco's mandatory sick leave law. Unless the benefits are requried by law, however, since they aren't obligated to give them at all, they certainly can decide how long you have to work before you get them.
