Legal Question in Employment Law in California

what are the laws pertaining to job title and pay? I have been with a company for over 3 years and have been doing work that is a viable title and wage increase but have been told that I am not but they are paying other people for the same work I do? When asked about my actual job duties the managers can't seem to give me a direct answer. Can this be part of a an employment complaint?

Generally, employers have complete discretion assigning its personnel to positions it see fit and determining the wages to go with it. Of course, employers may not base employment decisions on impermissible criteria such as age, race, gender, etc.

Unless you have evidence to support the belief that your employer is discriminating against you, all you can do is try to get this employer to recognize the value you bring to the company and they run the risk of losing you if they are not willing to pay what you are worth.

Good luck.
