Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Layoff/wage cutbacks

First I was told by the CEO (CEO is my cousin, her parents and other relatives work there)that she was told by higher staff to lay me off or she could keep me but would need to cut back my hourly wages (been w/company 14 years). Her father's dept. closed and he was not layed off or his wages cut back and other people that have been there a lot, lot less than I have. I decided to stay. My car was stolen from parking lot of business, I was driving company car and say my car being stolen and followed them. In the process lost control of company truck and crashed. A week later CEO tells me she has to lay me off because the vice president said to because of accident. I am a good worker (increase of hourly wages in past two years). CEO has been there 1 year or so. Can they do this?...I feel is discrimination, why wasn't anyone else (father, mother, uncle, etc) effected by this so called layoff's because of company not doing well. Thanks
