Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I am leaving my current employer and suddenly they are asking for me to fill out a W9. I have been with the company for almost three years and never filled one out. Also, I am part-time and share 40 hours with another part-time employee. That person was offered part-time benefits while mine were taken away. That does not sound fair.

If the benefits were taken away from you because of your race, gender, religion, age if over 40, pregnancy, medical condition, etc, or if was because you were a whistleblower or because you asserted a legal right (example: overtime pay, etc.), then it may have been unlawful
