Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I got a legal notice to appear in court for not paying wages to one of the workers our contractor hired a few years ago. I didn’t know this guy except last year he showed up at our house asking for contractor’s information. I have the original contact that was signed with contractor. Contact and I am listed as defendant in the case where I was never billed by this guy. Nor I hired him directly.

You need to take the steps necessary to protect yourself from a default judgment. You really need to speak to a litigation lawyer, preferably with a background in labor law, to help you here. I agree that this is an unfortunate -- and even bizarre -- situation that will entail unexpected costs to you, but I don't see what else there is for you to do. Self-representation is fraught with traps.

You should be able to find someone to assist you through your local bar association or other services that connect attorneys with potential clients.
