Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Legal for prior job to call new job and give a false statement?
I recently left a sales job in Riverside to take a new job in Orange County. We parted on bad terms, they felt I gave too short notice...72 Hours. A week later a old client of mine joined my friends agency in Riverside. She believes that I was moonlighting for this agency...I'm not. But regardless she has given a threat to call my current employer and tell them this information. Not only was she rude and abrasive, She gave this threat in witness of 3 people. Is this legal? Do I have a case if she follows through?

You may have a cause of action for defammation but I need more information. To win a defammation suit you have to show damages. I suggest you set her straight about the facts and try to resolve the matter informally.
