Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Legal residency requirements

Is it legal for a state employer to require their employees to live within a certain distance of the job site? (i.e. Can an employer make you live within 50 miles of the office?)

If so, what is the precedent? If not, where can I find a reference to the contrary?
