Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Lifestyle discrimination

May an employer refuse to hire a qualified candidate based solely on the candidates lifestyle. There is nothing legally wrong with that person's lifestyle, it's just different than the lifestyle of the consumers the company targets. Any relevant laws/cases would be great. Thanks.

Re: Lifestyle discrimination

It depends what you mean by "lifestyle". If "lifestyle" means sexual orientation, then discrimination is prohibited in California. If it means, for example, refusing to shower, then you can be fired. Actually, California law says you're an at-will employee, which means you can be fired for any reason (except certain exceptions), or no reason.
