Legal Question in Employment Law in California

How long can a company wait to pay an employee?

I am a freelancer working for a company. Though

I have filed invoices for payment at a regular

basis, the company is now more than 10 weeks

tardy with their payments. Are there laws

requiring a timely payment to employees? What

recourses might I have?

Under California law your employer is obligated to pay you at least two times/month. If you haven't been paid for 10 weeks, you have a claim for wages and penalties which can be enforced by filing a complaint with the Labor Commissioner. You can find the closest office to you in the white pages under California government, Department of Labor Standards Enforcement.
