Legal Question in Employment Law in California

If a married couple, working for the same company is laid off on the same day ...is that legal????

Unless either one of you has a written contract of employment, you are at will employees and can be let go at any time without reason. letting go of both of you makes some employment sense as the one not fired would resent the company and might do lesser quality work.
