Legal Question in Employment Law in California
I'm a massage therapist working as an independent contractor, and have been working with a company doing corporate massage events. Recently, this company told me not to hand out my business cards at events because I was representing the company (rather than the company and myself) while at these events. Is it legal for a company to restrict my ability to display or hand out my business information alongside their marketing materials? Thank you.

Yes. It is perfectly legal for a contract engagement to condition the contract on the contractor not independently soliciting work. That is extremely common and completely legal. In fact YOU are on a little bit shaky legal ground soliciting customers that are at the event due to their marketing efforts to get the thing set up.
