Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Maximum days worked per week

I supervise my front desk staff, and part of their responsibility is to open up the shop, after failing to open on time on a few occassions, I have been asked by upper management to open the shop for the next 3 consecutive weekends, in addition to my everyday work (Mon-Fri). I have been going in to the shop to work 14 days in a row without any days off. If I don't show up for work, they might suspend me. can they do this and not give me a day off within a work week?

Re: Maximum days worked per week

Generally, every employee is entitled to at least one day off in a seven-day workweek. (Labor Code Sections 551, 552) However, rest days may be accumulated when employment requires that the employee work seven or more consecutive days, as long as the employee receives days of rest equivalent to one day's rest in seven during each calendar month. (see Labor Code Section 554) This requirement does not apply to emergencies, agricultural work, work performed in the protection of life or property from loss or destruction, or when hours worked do not exceed 30 in any workweek or six in any workday. Retaliation for enforcing California Wage Laws is prohibited. If you are suspended or otherwise retaliated against, you may have a claim.
