Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I was offered a job at a therapy group private practice in CA. They are asking me to form a corporation first, then fill out paperwork , a contractor agreement and credentialing paperwork. Why would I need to form a corporation? I have a friend who is working at a group private practice and just filled out a contractor agreement and credentialing paperwork .

One of the more likely possibilities is that they are trying to maximize the chances that you will be treated as an independent contract and not as an employee, should the EDD ever decide to do an audit.
