Orientation

When I was recently hired as a part-time RN I was initially told I would be required to do an orientation of 8 weeks full-time to which I agreed. I recently received a phone call from hiring supervisor stating that they are now requiring a 6 month full-time orientation before I can go on the position I was hired. Can they do that?
