Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Overtime pay during workday

My work shift is from 3PM to 11PM. My employer requires me to report to work 15 minutes early, 2:45PM, for a uniform inspection and to ensure I have the required information before starting to work. My question is, am I entitled to overtime pay due to my employers requirement for me to report in early before my work shift actually begins? 15 minutes a day adds up over the course of the pay period, which is every two weeks.

Re: Overtime pay during workday

If you are required to show up for work 15 minutes early every day, you are under your employer's control and they have to pay you for that time. Keep track up all your hours and submit them to your employer, in writing, for payment. If this puts you over 8 hours a day, calculate the time at one and a half times your hourly pay. If you are concerned about the response you will get from the employer, file a claim with the California Labor Commission or hire a labor law attorney in your area.
