Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Parental Rights At the Workplace
I want to know if there is a particular statute, if which is it?, that protects parents from being fired from their jobs if they need to request time off from their jobs to observe their child in the classroom if that child is diagnosed with a learning disability. Is it required that the parents exhaust their vacation time first? Does it make a difference if they are part-time or full? And if they are entitled to time off, is it with or without pay? I would really appreciate a prompt answer to this troubling matter, I have been told that there is a CA law that protects parents but I am unsure if this indeed valid. Thank you very much!

Take a look at Labor Code Section 230.8
The above is meant to assist in a general understading of the subject matter. IT IS NOT TO BE REGARDED AS LEGAL ADVICE AND NO ATTORNEY - CLIENT RELATIONSHIP HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED. Companies and individuals with particular questions should seek advice of counsel.
