Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Parent's Rights
In the summer my 15 year old son was having promlems with his heart. He was playing sports when it happen so I stopped him from playing until the DR. could fine out what was wrong. They did all of the procredures, and didn't find anything so they told us to let him go back to playing sports. I went to my boss and told him that the basketball season for his school was starting and that I needed to be at the games in case something happen.I am on salary and he asked me if I was willing to go to hourly, and that if human resource said he could not do it, and if I did not come to work on those days I would loose my job. First I want to say that there is not a back up for me here, and the company will not hire one. When ever I ask for time off I am told that I need to find a solution for this, but how can I if they are not willing to hire anybody. I want to know what are my legal rights in this is it my job or the company to find someone to cover my job when I can't be here, and how do I go about fixing this problem.

Re: Parent's Rights
There are a variety of laws in California that require employers to allow employees to take time off for specific reasons. These reasons may include taking leave to care for a child suffering a serious illness, or to be allowed to attend school activities.
Whether your employer is subject to these laws depends on the size of the company and other factors.
There is not enough information to address your situation. You may wish to schedule an appointment with an employment law attorney near you to review the particulars of your case and learn what your rights are.
