Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Can Past Employers Give Out Salary Information?

Are recruiters of a potential employer allowed to ask my current employer my salary? I seem to remember that this is illegal?

Re: Can Past Employers Give Out Salary Information?

It depends on whether there are any limits you placed on authorizing information to be provided by past employers. When employees simply list former employers as a source of reference for prospective employers to contact, you are impliedly given them authorization to respond to any questions asked of them.

If you do not want specific information given out about your former employment, you must expressly advise them not to provide that information.
