Legal Question in Employment Law in California
How Many Payroll Checks Can A Company Bounce Before They Break The Law?
I was working for a company that had a bad check problem until they fired me. Two times they asked me to cash a larger than normal payroll check to pay other employees. I wasn't aware both had bounced until after legal proceedings had taken place and judgement was ordered in favor of the plaintiff. I'm not the only employee that went thru this. Now when they gave me my final paycheck it had an unfamilar stamp on back that read, endorsement of this check acknowledges payment in full of all sums owed. If i were to cash this check it clears their responsibility of the other checks. What should i do?

A paycheck with a restrictive endorsement is unlawful in California. A paycheck drawn on insufficient funds is also unlawful in California.
Take the check to the Labor Commissioner's Office near you.
