Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Personnel Records-Viewing

I understand that I can view my personnel records but what law specifies that? I was told I could see only what I ''signed''. I used to do HR and know how companies keep their records. I have some concerns about what may have been placed in my folder and feel stonewalled. ANy help is greatly appreciated. I believe I can not copy the pages? What about pictures or a tape recorder stating what I did see? For future reference? Thank you for your time.

-Under the Labor Code, you are entitled to review your entire file except for letters of reference. You are entitled to a copy of everything that you have signed.

Your employer confused 2 different laws. Under Labor Code section 432, you must be given copies of all documents you have signed relating to obtaining or holding your employment. Under Labor Code section 1198.5, you have the right to inspect your entire personnel file.
