Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Pregnancy Discrimination

I'm employed with a security co. When I advised them that I was pregnant and requested Maternity Uniforms I was advised they had none and would not purchase any because they were not needed on a regular basis. I was given larger uniforms instead. Properly wearing my uniforms as they had been given to me I began to get written up by my Field Supervisors though upper management were the ones who had given me the uniforms. I was advised that I should probably considered taking time off until baby was born because no uniforms would purchased or given to me during my pregnancy and I was told quote ''I could not worked as I was because I was out of uniform. I continued to be written up and even suspended by the same supervisor on a daily basis no matter the shift I worked.

Re: Pregnancy Discrimination

This is a clear case of illegal discrimination under California law. Contact your local office of the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing. You can find their phone # in the "Government" section at the beginning of the phone book's white pages or by calling 411. Be sure to tell the operator its a California State agency.

If you are located in the San Francisco Bay Area, I'd be happy to discuss your rights with you and also to inform you of your rights to take pregnancy leave when its finally needed (12 weeks in a calander year).
