Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Can A Previous Employer Do This

I have a question as to how to proceed in my situation. That being I have a pevious employer stating more information then is legally allowed when a potential employer calls and asks about me.

The previous employer has stated theat I was terminated and that I should not be hired by anyone. What should I do?

I assume most people will tell me to get a lawyer, but I can't afford this $100-200 an hour. Is there another way. I have a wife and daughter I need to be able to support them but it's hard to get a job when people say stuff like that.

Thank you for your time in reading this question, and I look forward to any helpful information you may have.

Re: Can A Previous Employer Do This

a former employer can say anything he wants to say as long as it is true.
