Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Promise of Employment

I've been employed at a Private Psychiatric Hospital for four years, the last twenty months in my current position. I've always had favorable reviews. On Sept 5th me and two others learned in a staff meeting that the company was "eliminating" our postion, but we would be absorbed into the facility as counselors (my previous position) on Oct 1st. (This is also stated in the meeting minutes.) We put in our transfer slips as instructed and have attempted to find out our new schedules but have been put off consistantly, told we don't have garanted positions, that we don't have senority and that schedules are not yet made out. I was told on Sept 25th, to call back on Sept. 29th and they'd "see what there was." Now, I'm fearful I won't have a job on Oct 1st after expecting one. Since I'd been a counselor before and am more qualified than thos on the units, I did not anticipate trouble. There have also Policy and Proceedure changes in the past month without notification resulting in lost wages. I hate to resort to legal action but am fast running out of options. I called the Department of Labor and they said, "Get a Lawyer." Do I have any legal recourse?
