Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Do we have to provide school visit leave/benefit (paid time off) under Californi

As an employer in California, is there a law or ruling that we need to adhere to for allowing employees (parents or legal guardians) paid time off for visiting the child's school for meetings and conferences such as (4) hours of PTO per school year per child (Grade K-12) with substantial documentation?

Generally, a California employer may be required under the California Labor Code to grant a California employee up to 40 hours per year time-off for certain school visits. In addition, the employer may not discriminate or retaliate against the employee for requesting or taking the leave. There are certain conditions associated with enforcement of the employer's responsibilities under these California laws, however. If may be unwise to continue your existing employment practices before you know the rules. Thus, it would be prudent for you to consult with a local employment lawyer familiar with these and other employment practice rules as soon as possible.
