Legal Question in Employment Law in California

I was put on administrative leave for an internal investigation and ultimately fired. They refuse to give me a valid reason for termination or a copy of the report. They also will not let me come get my personal belongings. Are there laws that allow me the copy of the report and the legal right to come get my stuff?

Send them a certified letter requesting they allow you to review your personnel file, per Cal. Labor Code, section 1198.5, and you be provided with copies of documents you have signed, per Cal. Labor Code, section 432. Give them a deadline to allow you to either pick up your personal belongings or send it to you, or you will sue them for conversion of property (probably in small claims court).

They do not have to provide you with a copy of the investigation or tell you why you were fired. But the reason may be noted in your personnel file.
