Legal Question in Employment Law in California

Question regarding eligibility for unemployment

I have a friend who was just recently fired from a drug rehab facility just days after she submitted a complaint regarding her supervisor. The reason they gave for her dismissal was ''poor performance''. She has applied for unemployment but is quite afraid that she will be denied. She says that NO ONE she knows that has been fired from this facility has ever been shown eligible for unemployment regardless of the reason behind their firing. She says that the owner of this place has big bucks and that he must be buying someone off somewhere. What can she do about this? All she received upon her dismissal was one weeks severance pay. Any ideas?

If she doesnt receive unemployment she can always appeal the decision.
