Legal Question in Employment Law in California
Hi, i have a question, can an employer fire you even if you,re not on call or on the clock? i was a manager of a check cashing company who at the end of the day money came up missing, i had worked that same day but the day shift wich ended at 5;00pm when my shift ended i cleared my register and no money was missing, later that same day at night i got a call at 8;00pm that money was missing from the safe, therefore since management considered that i was acting manager for the day they blamed me and fired me eventhough i didn't steel anything and i was not on the clock!!!!!!!!! is that ilegal???

unfortunately, yes. Most employment in California is "at will", which means you can be let go without any reasons. Government employees are members of a civil service system that requires good cause for teminations, but few private employers have such systems, So it does not matter that they fired you for a mistke in their logic. If they said some derogatory things about youafter you resigned, then you may have a cause action for defamation.
