Reason for Termination

We are about to terminate a teacher at

our school for verbal abuse of another

teacher. Should we tell the teacher

specifically why they are being fired?

The teacher is employed at-will.

California is an at-will state, which means anyone can quit or be fired for no reason or any reason, as long as it's not illegal, such as discrimination. If your school is not a public school subject to civil service and collective bargaining or employment agreements, etc., an employee would be at will. If you choose to provide an explanation, it's best to put it in writing, with the help of an attorney, so that it can be used as evidence in case a lawsuit results.
