Legal Question in Employment Law in California
I have been receiving unemployment insurance for over a year - now on my second extension. I just received an email from my past employer, saying they are going to appeal (apparantly they didn't know about my UI payments this entire time) and try and get all the money back from me - essentially, garnish my wages when i get my next job. Can they do this? It will be their word vs. mine in a court - they are saying I was fired for cause. The truth is they let me go due to insufficent revenue generation (I worked in sales, as a recruiter).

No, it's far too long since you were awarded unemployment benefits for your former employer to appeal. They needed to file the appeal within 20 days of your award of benefits.
